I love how you add the science-backed evidence to this! So so fascinating.

When I had a coach, I noticed how I would complete the hard tasks by the time I met her again. It made me think about how powerful it would be to have some sort of accountability group. It’s in my “one day” wish list of things to host one day. Perhaps I just need to follow the steps you outlined and just do it! 😅😉

Ooh, that's a great idea. I think you already took a step forward; you have a weekly accountability corner, which many find super useful 😊

I do love diving into research a lot 🫣😂

Some great advice here. I think the regular check-in is an underrated touch, particularly the idea of scheduling it formally. Thanks Jana!

I love this. My big juicy goal is to publish a book of illustrated essays. But I am only getting started so I want to focus on writing and illustrating and constantly post. Maybe 2 a month. And then work on my craft and be in a community of writers.

Oh, I love your big goal-publishing a book of illustrated essays, and I also like how you planned it out according to writing and publishing on Substack. Feel free to use this space to check in regularly, Femy.

Great information on how to make goals become a reality! Buddies make a big difference. I love that you have a workout accountability partner. Way to go!

Thank you, Daria. We started thinking I would be the one who would keep us on track; it turns out I am the one who needed the push two out of three times! We have this rule: as soon as one of us says: "I can't be bothered", the other must hold their truth. Otherwise, if we both say it out loud, we just skip the session. It's hard work and a lot of commitment from both parties.

I see your accountability partnering and raise you consistent body-doubling sessions. 😉

I love this, and believe wholeheartedly in the power of "going public" about a goal (even with only one other person) to supercharge your motivation and ability to see things through.

I have also recently (as in, earlier this year) *finally* learned about the magic of body doubling, and it has helped me work consistently on my personal writing projects like nothing else I'd ever tried. I have a small group of writers who meet every week day to work together on a silent Zoom call. (We chat a little before and after, but the bulk of the time is just everyone on camera but also on mute - working away on our respective tasks). It's an absolute lifesaver, and also a real pleasure. I highly recommend.

Thank you for sharing! I love the idea of "body doubling," where you all meet together and don't hold each other accountable, but instead work together silently. That is amazing. I am glad it's working. Don't you find other people distractive even though they are silent?

Hi Jana, I love that you are focusing on involving others in your plan-making as a way to enforce accountability. This is one reason why I have committed to doing a monthly update on my Substack process. Because it became evident early on that I was going to have some months where I made no progress, or even went backwards. But I also knew if I committed to a monthly update, then I was also committing myself to sticking with it and see this through. Which is what everyone on Substack says to do: Stick with it till you get the results you want.

Challenge accepted :)

Thank you for sharing, Mack. And most definitely, keep those monthly updates coming, as I enjoy reading them, and they do help! Seeing so many writers perceiving for months, if not years, is good. 😊

Thank you for the encouragement, Jana. Still in the slog now, but seeing some positive signs!

You're most welcome. That's what we are here for: to support each other, even through the "slog." I did hear that growth takes a back seat when approaching a big milestone, and you're not far off from one, so let's hope it loses up a bit soon.

I love that you say one must be serious about their goals. So true. Necessary to ID what we want before we can achieve things. Your resource list is great. What a find for us all to delve into deeper aspects of achieving what we want in life. Thanks for a great post!
